Me and the Sea   Europe's main seas—the Mediterranean, Baltic, Black, North, and Adriatic Seas—are crucial for the continent's environment, economy, and culture. However, they face significant challenges today. Pollution, especially from plastics and chemicals, is a major issue affecting marine life and ecosystems. Overfishing threatens biodiversity, while rising sea temperatures due to climate change are disrupting habitats and increasing the risk of species extinction. Coastal development and tourism put pressure on fragile ecosystems, and ocean acidification is affecting marine species, particularly in the Mediterranean and Baltic Seas. Urgent action is needed to protect these vital waters for future generations. Me and the Sea is an exciting eTwinning project that invites schools across Europe to explore the beauty, diversity, and importance of our seas. Through collaborative activities, students will learn about the seas of Europe, their ecosystems, and the environmental challenges they face. This project encourages creativity, intercultural exchange, and environmental awareness while fostering a love for the marine world. Aims

Raise Environmental Awareness: Educate students about the critical importance of Europe’s seas and the environmental challenges they face, such as pollution, overfishing, and climate change. Foster a Connection with Marine Ecosystems: Encourage students to explore the diversity and beauty of marine ecosystems, nurturing a sense of responsibility for their conservation. Promote Collaborative Learning: Enable students from different countries to work together, exchange ideas, and learn from each other’s perspectives on marine protection and environmental sustainability. Develop Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving Skills: Empower students to analyze current environmental problems affecting seas and propose innovative solutions for their preservation. Encourage Active Citizenship: Inspire students to become advocates for environmental conservation, both locally and globally, by raising awareness in their communities and taking action to protect marine environments. Expected Results

Increased Environmental Awareness: Students will have a deeper understanding of the environmental challenges faced by Europe's seas, such as pollution, overfishing, and climate change. They will recognize the importance of protecting marine ecosystems and be more conscious of their own environmental impact. Creation of Collaborative Outputs: Students will work together to create a variety of collaborative outputs such as presentations, videos, digital posters, and other creative works that highlight the beauty of the seas and the importance of conservation. These outputs will be shared across participating schools, raising awareness at a broader level. Enhanced Intercultural Exchange: Participants will develop cross-cultural relationships by working with peers from different countries. This will foster greater understanding of different cultural attitudes towards the sea and environmental conservation, promoting European unity. Development of Problem-Solving Skills: Through analyzing marine environmental issues and proposing solutions, students will enhance their critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. They will come up with practical, sustainable solutions that can be implemented within their own communities or schools. Raised Awareness in Local Communities: As part of the project, students may organize events, exhibitions, or awareness campaigns in their schools and local communities. This will extend the impact of the project beyond the classroom, engaging families and local stakeholders in marine conservation efforts. Improved Digital Skills: Students will become more proficient in using digital tools and platforms to collaborate with others, present their findings, and share their creative work. This will include experience with eTwinning tools, video conferencing, digital design, and content creation. Increased Engagement in Environmental Advocacy: Students will develop a sense of responsibility for the protection of marine environments and may take part in or initiate eco-friendly activities, such as beach cleanups, plastic reduction campaigns, or petitions advocating for marine protection. Sustainable Long-Term Impact: The project will aim to inspire long-term behavioral change in students, encouraging them to adopt sustainable habits in their daily lives and continue their involvement in environmental protection efforts beyond the project’s duration. Strengthened School Networks: Schools participating in the project will build lasting partnerships with other European schools, which may lead to future collaborations on environmental or other educational topics. Publication and Dissemination of Project Results: The project’s findings, student creations, and key lessons will be shared through a project website, blogs, or social media platforms, making them accessible to a wider audience of educators, students, and environmental advocates across Europe.
